Angel Arce's bio
Before venturing off into my IT career I served as an electrical technician for about 8 years,
working on industrial control panels and writing electrical schematics. I graduated from
DeVry University
with a bachelor’s degree in CIS (Computer Information Systems) as a Suma Cum
Luade with a 3.96 GPA.
When describing my IT career, I like to break it up into phases, three to be precise.
Phase One
The first phase of my IT career began a little over seven years ago as a web designer. I decided
early on that I wanted to be a well-rounded individual, able to wear multiple hats or switch from
one position to another if needed. While in this phase I began to master HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
I also became very familiar with Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Illustrator and Flash.
Phase Two
The second phase of my IT career had me venturing into the programming world, which is without a
doubt my favorite thing to do; I often say that I'm a professional hobbiest because it's hard for me to consider
what I do a job. I’ve found that the complexity of developing data driven web applications
really grabs my attention. Now, I don’t mind designing the look and feel of websites and applications; it
can actually be a relief from programming in those burn-out times, but the greater gratification comes when
I take a client’s idea and bring-forth a useable product that helps them achieve their goals more efficiently.
I started off programming in Java, creating applets and libraries. However once I was exposed to C# and the
.NET world (thaks to Professor Ed Hill of DeVry University), I was hooked, redeemed from the overly complicated and time
consuming world of Java programming.
Phase Three
And the third phase (which compliments the second) is my pursuit to fully implement the full life cycle software
development practice. I use the word pursue because from what I've experienced so far is that being a software
engineering/architect is much like being a lawyer or doctor, you really don’t even master it, but rather you
practice it and continue to practice until you don’t practice it anymore.
However, this is an area in which I feel that I have made a smooth transition to. What I have tried to do with all of my
projects is to adhere to the most common best practices in regards to website design, web development, database design and
application architecture.
In Conclusion
Lately I've been creating a lot of e-commerce applications and in doing so; I've been taking my web design and development
skills to a whole new level. I've been focusing on creating e-commerce designs that are clean and utilizing CSS, XHTML and
AJAX technologies in order to achive the maximum organic search engine ranking in hopes of utilizing the power of search
engines to maximize the amount of traffic the e-commerce application receives and to insure the best possible end-user
experience. The e-commerce applications are fully data driven providing my clients the ability to update and maintain all
aspects of the website's content at their own convenience.
